Could Spravato be right for you? Check in two minutes.
Read the questions below. They’re the same ones a clinician asks at your evaluation, usually a video visit you do from home. This isn’t a diagnosis. It’s a way to know what to expect, and if you’d like, we’ll check your insurance for you.

The questions that point toward yes.
- Are you 18 or older? Spravato is approved for adults.
- Have you been diagnosed with depression, or think you have it? If you’ve never been diagnosed, the evaluation is where that happens.
- Have you tried at least two antidepressants without enough relief? You’re far from alone. Many people don’t get enough relief from their first antidepressant, or their second. That’s exactly who Spravato is for.
- Is your depression still getting in the way of work, sleep, relationships, or simply getting through the day?
If you answered yes to all four, you’re the person Spravato was approved for. The medications that didn’t work aren’t a prediction about this one. They’re the qualification.
The things that can rule it out.
Spravato isn’t right for everyone. A few conditions rule it out completely, according to its prescribing information:
- An aneurysm or similar blood-vessel disease, in the brain, chest, abdomen, arms or legs.
- A past bleed in the brain (intracerebral hemorrhage).
- An allergic reaction to esketamine or ketamine.
Things we’ll want to talk through.
These don’t necessarily rule Spravato out, but we’ll go over them carefully at your evaluation:
- Blood pressure or heart problems, because Spravato raises blood pressure for a while after each dose.
- Bipolar disorder. Spravato treats depression that hasn’t responded to antidepressants, including the depressive episodes of bipolar disorder, alongside a mood stabilizer. One plan, Horizon NJ Health, won’t cover it for anyone with a history of bipolar disorder. Spravato for bipolar depression.
- A history of substance use, because Spravato is a controlled medication.
- Pregnancy, or plans to become pregnant.
- Other medications you take, including sleep aids, anxiety medications and stimulants.

What people ask about qualifying.
Who qualifies for Spravato?
Adults with depression that hasn’t responded to at least two antidepressants. Spravato is also approved, together with an oral antidepressant, for adults with depression who have suicidal thoughts or actions.
What disqualifies you from Spravato?
Its prescribing information rules it out for people with an aneurysm or similar blood-vessel disease, a past bleed in the brain, or an allergy to esketamine or ketamine. Other conditions, such as high blood pressure, need a careful look but don’t automatically rule it out.
Do I need a referral to be evaluated?
No. You can contact us directly. If you have a psychiatrist or therapist, we’ll coordinate with them.
Do I have to come in for the evaluation?
Usually not. Almost every evaluation is a video visit you do from home. You come to one of our offices for the treatments themselves, which have to be given in a certified office.
What if I’ve only tried one antidepressant?
Register anyway. We’ll look at your history with you at your evaluation. Sometimes a medication you tried counts differently than you’d expect, and if Spravato isn’t the right next step yet, we’ll tell you what is.
Is this check a diagnosis?
No. It’s a guide to the questions a clinician will ask. Only an evaluation can tell you whether Spravato is right for you.
