How well does Spravato work? Better than most people expect.
Across more than 30,000 treatments, about 85% to 90% of our patients get moderate improvement or better. In the largest head-to-head trial, more than half of people on Spravato were in remission by eight months, all of them people whose depression hadn’t responded to at least two antidepressants.

Ahead of a standard alternative, and further ahead with time.
ESCAPE-TRD compared Spravato with quetiapine, a common add-on medication, in 676 adults with treatment-resistant depression. Everyone also took an oral antidepressant.1
“Remission” is the highest bar there is: depression scores low enough to count as minimal or absent. On top of that, many more people improve meaningfully without quite reaching it.
In practice, the large majority get real relief.
Across more than 30,000 treatments, our clinicians’ experience is that about 85% to 90% of patients get anywhere from moderate improvement to complete relief.
That’s our clinical impression rather than a trial measure, so it isn’t directly comparable to the remission numbers above. But it’s what we see, week after week, in people who had nearly given up on feeling better.
Continuing treatment protects the gains.
In a relapse-prevention trial, people who were in stable remission and kept taking Spravato were 51% less likely to relapse than those switched to placebo.2 That’s why treatment continues, at a lower frequency, after the first two months. And it holds up long term: in the SUSTAIN-3 study, patients were followed for up to six and a half years with no new safety concerns, and the improvement generally held for people who stayed on treatment.3

Many people notice a change within the first weeks; for others it builds more steadily. In ESCAPE-TRD the Spravato group had already pulled ahead by week eight and kept pulling further ahead through week 32. We check in with you along the way, so you’ll know how it’s going.
Past failures don’t predict this one.
Spravato works on a different system from other antidepressants, so the ones that didn’t help you say little about whether this will. No test can tell in advance; the first two months are how we find out together.
What people ask about whether it works.
What is the success rate of Spravato?
In our clinicians’ experience across more than 30,000 treatments, about 85% to 90% of patients get moderate improvement or better. In the ESCAPE-TRD trial, 55.7% of people on Spravato were in remission at 32 weeks, against 36.3% on quetiapine.
How long does it take for Spravato to work?
Many people notice a change within the first weeks of treatment; for others it builds more steadily. Plan to give it the first two months.
What happens if Spravato doesn’t work for me?
Most patients do get a meaningful benefit. For the 10% to 15% who don’t, we’ll talk through what to try next.
Do the results last?
Yes, for people who continue treatment. In a relapse-prevention trial, people in stable remission who kept taking Spravato were 51% less likely to relapse than those switched to placebo, and long-term follow-up of up to six and a half years found the improvement generally held.
