Experience

What 30,000 Spravato treatments have taught us.

We've given more than 30,000 Spravato treatments across our four New Jersey offices, top ten in the country by volume. Every one of them taught our team something small about making the next one easier. These are the lessons that matter most to the people who come to us.

Lesson one

The first session is the hardest, so we prepare you for it.

The first sessions are usually the most intense, and after the first few treatments most people hardly notice the dissociation at all. So we spend our effort on the first one: walking you through what you may feel, helping you pick calm music, and keeping a Sherpa beside you. What the hard first-session stories online describe.

Lesson two

Feeling less doesn't mean it's working less.

As sessions get gentler, many people worry the medication has stopped working. It hasn't. How strongly you feel a session has nothing to do with how well it's helping, and we tell every patient this early.

Lesson three

The approval is part of the treatment.

A treatment you can't get approved doesn't help anyone. So our evaluations capture what insurers ask for, and 95% of our requests are approved the first time. When one isn't, we always go to peer-to-peer, then second-level appeal, then independent external review. 34 of 36 denials were overturned in our most recent internal review.

Lesson four

A history of failed antidepressants is a qualification, not a verdict.

Many of the people we treat have tried several antidepressants. Spravato works on glutamate signalling, a different system from all of them. We've seen enough people respond after everything else failed to stop treating that history as a prediction.

Lesson five

Rides and hours decide who sticks with it.

Twice a week in the first month is a lot of trips, and you can't drive yourself home. So we treat in the evenings and on Saturdays, and we help NJ Medicaid patients set up covered rides through ModivCare. Getting home after treatment.

Lesson six

Side effects you leave at the office are easier to live with.

Spravato's side effects stay inside the two hours you rest with us. Many people go about the rest of their day with a sense of profound relaxation, which is a very different experience from a daily pill whose side effects come home every day.

Are you one of the largest Spravato providers?
